However, the portal explains that it is necessary to put these data in context, as during the first quarter of last year, record highs were reached, which subsequently fell month by month. On the other hand, third party insurance also increased considerably, with a rise of 12.58%.

In this context, Kelisto points out that last March “broke the psychological barrier” of 1,000 euros, establishing the average cost of a car policy at 1,030.16 euros, with the most basic insurance (third party) in turn exceeding the barrier of 500 euros and settling at 516.01 euros per year average premium.

Kelisto.es insurance spokesman, Javier Martínez, pointed out that the cost of car insurance policies “had been falling slowly throughout 2024.”

“A slight rise at the beginning of 2025 was to be expected, given that the beginning of the year is always used by insurance companies to readjust costs, and the first quarter of the year is usually one of price increases”, detailed Martínez, quoted by the same media outlet.

Thus, after this rise, Spaniards spent 27 euros more per year on car insurance in the first quarter of 2025, which means, taking into account that 79% of households in the country have a policy of this type, an extra cost for all drivers of 395 million euros.
