The rainfall recorded in the Madrid region between March and April led to water being released from some dams, due to the increase in water levels recorded. In particular, the El Atazar dam, the largest in the region, stands out, as indicated by Euronews.

Water began to be releases from the upper spillway, after reaching the storage of 425 cubic hectometres of water – maximum level. According to the same media outlet, this is the third time that the dam has released water. The last time water was released from the El Altazar dam was in May 1991.

The Madrid government also claims that, since March, controlled water releases have been made from the dam, through its intermediate spillway. Water is currently being released from the upper spillway in a process that could take several days.
