According to Publituris, storms were often severe and flooding widespread, claiming at least 335 lives and affecting around 413,000 people. Extreme weather events caused an estimated 18.2 billion euros in damage in 2024, according to the report.

Throughout the year, there was a marked contrast between east-west weather conditions, with extremely dry conditions and often record heat in the east, and warm but humid conditions in the west. Sea surface temperatures also reached record levels, 0.7°C above average, reaching 1.2°C in the Mediterranean Sea.

The institutions once again emphasise the need for Europe to become climate neutral and resilient, and for the transition to clean energy and the adoption of renewable energy and energy efficiency measures to be accelerated.
