On 29 January, the Minister of Labour and Vice-President of the Spanish government, Yolanda Díaz, announced the increase in the minimum wage after a meeting with social partners.
The 4.41% increase in the minimum wage is reflected in an annual salary of €16,576 per year, divided into 14 instalments.
According to the minister, social dialogue works in Spain, being now taken “a step forward by giving workers good news.” During the announcement, the vice-president of the government thanked “the social partners for their participation and also the employers’ association, which this time put forward specific proposals even though it wasn't possible to reach a three-way agreement.”
Although the measure has already been approved, the increase in the minimum wage will only be applied from 11 February. The government also guarantees that back pay will be paid for the months in which workers did not receive the minimum wage with the increase approved by the Council of Ministers.
