Minister Jose Manuel Albares added that there are no reports of Spaniards among the fatalities in Wednesday's accident, in which 17 people died, according to the most recent figures.
Albares, speaking in Madrid at a meeting with foreign media outlets accredited in Spain, including Lusa, revealed that he spoke with his Portuguese counterpart, Paulo Rangel, on Wednesday, to whom he expressed "all the solidarity and condolences" of the Spanish government, as well as his willingness to collaborate in any way necessary.
"We feel this accident as something that touches us very closely," said Spain's Minister of Foreign Affairs (MFA), who emphasized that Portugal "is a sister country" and the ties that unite the two states.
Albares also posted a message on the social media platform X on Wednesday night, in Portuguese, expressing "condolences to the families of the victims of the tragic accident" in Lisbon, as well as "solidarity with the Portuguese people in these difficult times."

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez also expressed his condolences on the social media platform X on Wednesday over "the terrible accident" and expressed "solidarity with the families of the victims and with the Portuguese people in this difficult time."
The accident caused 17 deaths, Margarida Castro Martins, director of the Lisbon Municipal Civil Protection Service, said today.
According to the official, of the 38 people affected by the accident, 15 died on Wednesday and 23 were transported or travelled by their own means to hospitals, two of whom died overnight.
There are now 17 deaths and 21 injuries. The injured, 12 women and seven men, are of at least 10 different nationalities: four Portuguese, two Spanish, one Korean, one Cape Verdean, one Canadian, one Italian, one French, one Swiss, and one Moroccan. Four injured people are of unknown nationalities.
