According to the Ayutamiento de Madrid, the dynamism of international tourism has been key to this growth, as foreign visitors increased by 10.1% to 581,584 travellers, a record high in the series, and overnight stays grew by 8.2% to 1,262,701 nights. International visitors accounted for 61.3% of total travellers and 69% of overnight stays in July.
Councillor for Tourism, Almudena Maíllo, emphasized that "these data confirm that Madrid has become a top summer destination, thanks to the diversification of its international source markets." For Maíllo, "the strong performance of countries such as the United States, Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil reflects the capital's appeal as a quality tourist destination."
The United States remains the main source market for Madrid in July 2025, with 106,357 visitors and a year-over-year growth of 11.9%. Next in line are Mexico, with 43,528 travellers (+10.6%); Italy, with 30,899 travellers (+6.9%); and the United Kingdom, with 28,096 (+6.5%). Among the main international markets, Argentina once again stands out, with a 28.4% growth in visitors, and Brazil, with a +27.6%. Overall, markets from the Americas accounted for almost half (49.3%) of all foreign tourists in July.
