Due to the increase in tourist activity in the region, the city council decided to charge tourists a tax by 29 September, at the end of summer, to help the tourist facilities to prepare themselves for the tax.
To the authorities, it is a necessary tax because “tourism is steadily increasing, and this has a real impact on neighbourhoods and municipal services: cleaning, waste collection, and maintenance of public spaces", as quoted by idealista.
Specifically, all visitors will be required to pay the fee, as will those staying in tourist accommodation.
The regulations stipulate specific exemptions in which the surcharge will not apply, such as non-emancipated minors, people with a disability greater than 65%, federated athletes in official competition, stays for medical reasons, people receiving EU social programs, or those due to renovations to their primary residence.
